KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Overall responsibility for the development and day to day running of the Rugby Academy Programme at The Henley College.
2. Managing the partnership between The Henley College and Wasps from the College perspective.
3. To coach within the Wasps Junior Academy coaching group on a weekly basis.
STAFF MANAGEMENT
• Recruitment of staff to run the programme, then liaising with HR to sort payroll, DBS etc.
• Manage team of PT staff; setting guidelines, processes and monitoring progress.
• Liaise and manage the partnership with Wasps.
LEARNER MANAGEMENT
• Ensure standards of behaviour and attitude around campus and in lessons.
• Liaise with host families with regards to learner behaviour ‘out of hours’ if required.
• Support disciplinary procedures alongside personal tutors and teaching staff.
• Provide pastoral support to learners.
• Liaise with parents and feeding back on learner’s sporting and academic progress.
• Advise staff on learner management strategies.
PLAYING
• Four Coaching Sessions per week – 6.00 hours of direct on field Coaching Time, plus Planning & preparation time.
• Video Analysis Session – 2hr Prep Time & 1 hr Delivery.
• Player/Team Meeting – Prep Time & Delivery.
• Matchdays – Player Welfare, Coaching & Analysis.
• Pre-Season Training through the Summer (16hrs delivery per week for 5 weeks).
• Player Reports / 1:1s.
PROGRAMME MANAGEMENT
• Organise Fixtures – liaise with opposition, enter tournaments, and support admin staff organising referees, transport, venues, directions, kit cleaning.
• Purchase orders/budget management.
• Ordering & managing players kit, playing kit & training equipment.
• Providing viable exit routes for learners into further education, work or playing.
PROGRAMME DEVELOPMENT
• Advertising – promoting the programme and the college through various avenues.
• Communicating with parents re the programme and college.
• Recruitment – work with the College’s marketing department on advertising the course, collating interested applicants, running open evenings, organising trials, selection process, interviews, fitness testing.
• Targeted Recruitment – observations at academy sessions, county games, tournaments. Meeting with parents of key recruits 1:1 to discuss College options.
• Enhance the profile of the College and the course within the region and nationally.
• Continuous development of the programme to maximise what we can offer learners to enhance their college experience – e.g. new courses, additional opportunities.
ADDITIONAL
• Support the Sports department in its development plan. Supporting with structural changes, timetabling, standards, assignment writing, resource development, lesson planning, classroom management advice.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential qualifications
• Level 3 National Governing Body Coaching Award in Rugby Union
Desirable qualifications
• First-aid qualification
• RFU safeguarding
• Strength & conditioning qualification
• Teaching or instructor qualifications
Essential experience
• Minimum of 3 years experience coaching at county level or above
• Minimum of 1 year experience in an educational setting
Desirable experience
• Coaching within an elite sporting environment
• Report writing and risk assessments
Essential knowledge
• Current player pathways in rugby union and college/club links
• Post-16 educational sector and academic workloads
Personal attitudes
• Ability to work with students’ mental and physical fitness
• Sensitivity to the needs and expectations of individuals and to ensuring an appropriate level of responsiveness in all cases

Because of the nature of this job, it will be necessary for the appropriate level of Disclosure & Barring Service disclosure to be undertaken.
The contract will be served all year round with a holiday entitlement of 30 days (including up 4 college closure days designated by the Principal).
