A fantastic opportunity for a talented, driven Maths teacher on a secure path to Head of Department.
Great Barr School provides the perfect environment for an aspiring Curriculum Leader to develop in-depth knowledge and experience of strategies for improving progress and to build leadership skills within a strong and united team. We encourage experimentation and innovation in classroom practice and, as a school, we have invested heavily in training our teachers in the most up to date pedagogical methods.
The team is working hard to drive up the rate of progress our students are making. They have adopted a highly focused strategy which includes the introduction of new schemes of work focusing on opportunities for problem solving, discussion/collaboration, investigation and project based learning in line with Mike Ollerton’s approach to teaching and learning in Maths. The Leading Practitioner in Maths is providing Maths teachers with excellent opportunities for coaching to ensure they can all confidently lead innovative, focused lessons which promote high levels of engagement and rapid progress.
As well as supporting our Head of Maths (an Assistant Head Teacher) with the day to day running of the department, you will lead the development of Maths at Key Stage 3 ensuring that our children have the solid foundation they need to succeed at Key Stage 4.
The ideal applicant will have worked in a more junior curriculum leadership/coordination role for some time and will have gained skills in developing and disseminating high quality schemes of work, monitoring data for classes other than their own, coordinating interventions etc for example. Teachers with a significant history of agency supply teaching need not apply.
