Job Description

In preparation for the 15/16 season there is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Rehabilitation Specialist to join the performance department at Newcastle Falcons Rugby Club. The successful applicant will provide enthusiasm and energy and will be responsible for the development and delivery of Injury prevention sessions for 1st XV squad plus reconditioning programs for injured 1st XV squad players. Monitoring the response to training load throughout the season for players with chronic injuries, whilst optimising the integration of strength and conditioning modifications.
The medical and performance team consists of Sport physiotherapists, Soft Tissue Therapist, Sport medicine doctor, Strength and conditioning coaches, Rugby skills coaches and Video analysts.

Main purpose of role:
To work as an autonomous practitioner within a quality rehabilitation environment to develop and deliver rehabilitation programs in accordance with current protocols
To ensure a positive and dynamic image and high level of professionalism
To develop and foster productive relationships with players and coaches and ensure effective communication between all members of Medical and Performance team
To ensure clear organisation and integration between 1st XV Physiotherapists and Strength and conditioning coaches for long term injured players.
To be highly adaptable, flexible and committed to ensuring players are available for training and matches.
Continually update and record clearly via electronic record keeping in line with RFU Premiership guidelines

Key Duties:
Assist the performance team during MSK screening of 1st XV squad.
Develop and deliver player and position specific injury prevention programs in group setting.
Keep up-to-date records of the development and progress of each athlete
Communicate regularly and clearly with Physiotherapist and Strength and Conditioning coaches
Monitor players response to training load and alert performance team of performance dips prior to player becoming injured.
To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of clinical and professional activities
To demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development and to maintain a contemporary record of such activity
To contribute to service development initiatives and other adhoc projects and tasks as agreed with Team Leader
To participate in audits in line with PGB standards
To contribute to multidisciplinary audit research and evaluation of the clinical effectiveness and evidence base for the management of elite athletes.

Essential:
• Recognised Post-Graduate Degree in Physiotherapy, Strength and Conditioning, Sports Rehabilitation or Sports science.
• Rehabilitation/Clinical Exercise Prescription Qualification/Accreditation
• Professional indemnity insurance
• Full UK drivers license
• 2 years sports rehab experience in an elite setting

Desired:
• Strength and Conditioning Certification
• Weightlifting/Olympic Lifting Accreditation
• Experience working in rugby
• An extensive knowledge base in the area of strength training in both program development and deliver
• Excellent IT skills
