Hackney New School is an exciting, oversubscribed secondary school, which opened in September 2013. Our core vision is to provide students with access to the widest range of opportunities in life by fostering academic excellence and instilling self-belief, intellectual curiosity and responsibility towards others in society. All at HNS share the belief that an outstanding education can be provided to children from a wide range of backgrounds, if they are being challenged in all aspects of their academic and personal development. In September 2015 we move into our exciting new purpose built buildings on the Kingsland canal basin.
An exciting opportunity for an English teacher has arisen within the English faculty at Hackney New School. The subject is high performing with students making significant and sustained progress. We are looking for an imaginative and inspiring teacher to work in a supportive and energetic school and with an expanding school due to a new sixth form opening in 2016, we are looking for someone who can also meet the needs of our increased roll. The right candidate will work closely with the Head of English and Deputy Head of English to design the curriculum for KS4/5, contribute fully to extra-curricular activities as well as eventually teach across all Key Stages.
You will be committed to ensuring every student is supported and challenged to reach their potential in all areas of their education. You are an enthusiastic, well-qualified and inspirational teacher who is ready to take on a new challenge with excellent prospects for career development. You have the vision, drive and interpersonal skills to motivate students in English and drama and you are keen to make a real and significant difference to the students in our school. Experience of teaching KS5 would be beneficial.
Can you meet the challenge of being an English teacher in a school with:
An extended school day.
Mixed ability teaching throughout all subjects and classes.
Innovative use of IT in all aspects of school life.
A “Teaching morning” and “study afternoon” where students are given time to experience a range of co-curricular activities, independent study and learn how to think for themselves.
A high expectation of academic and social achievement for all its students.
An emphasis on performance in music, sports and academic activities to develop confidence and determination.
A unique course called the “Core” which emphasises the oral debate of the history of ideas.
A growing student body year on year, which will require forward planning and strategic thinking?
