An opportunity has arisen for a full time Teacher of Geography and History to join these large, successful departments. Both History and Geography at The Abbey are vital and successful subjects with very good take-up and examination results at GCSE, A level and the International Baccalaureate (IB). Many girls go onto to study Geography or History at university
Geography is a very popular option at GCSE, with between 50-60 students in each of Year 10 and 11. The students currently follow AQA Specification A and they all sit the Higher Paper. Geography is also a very popular option in the Sixth Form, with approximately 20 students in each of the Lower and Upper Sixth. At Advanced Level the students currently follow the AQA Specification. The Abbey School also offers Geography as part of the International Baccalaureate diploma.
All girls take History for the first three years in the Senior School. A chronological and skills-based approach is followed at KS3 with themes such as Power and Conflict and the Lives of Ordinary People across a range of British and World History topics. History is a very popular option at GCSE with over half the year group choosing the subject. The GCSE course is the Edexcel Specification A, Modern World History.
