Teacher of Physics – London Academy of Excellence (LAE) – Newham

LAE seeks a graduate teacher of Physics with strong subject knowledge to teach this popular and valued subject. We seek a teacher committed to high academic standards but also one who can communicate to young people an enthusiasm for the subject. A teaching qualification is not required for this post, but a passion for Physics and for teaching young people is a necessity.

The department in September will consist of two other members of staff. Physics is a popular subject at LAE – this year 50 sixthformers are studying the subject at AS Level and 32 sixthformers are studying the subject at A2 Level. The department has a partnership with Highgate School, partner school of LAE, and expert colleagues from this school support learning and teaching, including planning for practicals.

A Physics education at the LAE should go beyond the classroom. The successful candidate will encourage the sixthformers to learn beyond the specification and to enter competitions such as the Physics Olympiad. It is expected that there will be candidates for the top universities, and the Physics Department will deliver a challenging extension programme to guide these candidates.

Child Protection

All members of staff must comply with LAE’s Safeguarding & Welfare Policy. If in the course of carrying out the duties of the post the post holder becomes aware of any actual or potential risks to the safety and welfare of our sixthformers, these concerns must be reported immediately in accordance with the policy.

The London Academy of Excellence is committed to the safeguarding and welfare of children and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to this post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
