Swindon is ranked among one of the top 10 highly innovative areas in the UK.
Swindon Borough Council’s directorate team endeavour to reflect this innovation and are constantly assessing the service provided. Our teams are focussed on improving service provision, which your excellent skills will enhance.
You will be the Council’s Virtual School Headteacher for Looked After Children, supporting the delivery of the Stronger Together vision that the Council has. The Council has significant challenges ahead including delivering service improvement in an environment where the demand for public services will increase, against a backdrop of reduced resources. The way public services are delivered will continue to evolve and change, and the Council wants to be at the forefront of enabling safe, strong and prosperous communities.
You will be required to be the lead officer working with schools to ensure that looked after children succeed in their education. This means achieving high outcomes in all aspects of their work and ensuring that they make good or better progress in their learning.
You will need to ensure that all pupils have high quality personal education plans that focus on educational outcomes. You may also initiate or be involved in projects or networks designed to raise attainment or support looked after children. This could involve school to school partnerships and collaborations. You will need to be able to monitor achievement data effectively and be able to challenge schools when looked after children are not making the progress expected of them.
