An exciting opportunity has arisen at Surrey Sports Park as part of a maternity cover position. The role is diverse with an emphasis on co-ordinating and mentoring students and new graduates who are part of the successful internship program that has been built over the last few years within the Performance Team. As an elite facility our athletes range from Team Surrey athletes to Scholars, as well as professional players within our British Basketball and Netball Superleague franchises. The Performance Team is well established consisting of experienced S&C coaches, therapists and S&C interns, all with the goal of working together to establish the highest standard of care for our athletes.
Role Summary
The role will form a key part of the Surrey Sports Park Performance Team, who provide performance services for Surrey University’s Team Surrey athletes and Scholars, as well as Netball Superleague and British Basketball league elite franchises. Working under the guidance of the Technical Lead (Performance) and alongside the Therapy Lead; the successful applicant will provide mentoring to the internship and placement program, including continued professional development activities, 1:1 mentoring meetings and supervising the student clinic. Further, they will be expected to provide advice and solutions on day to day problems within the specialist area that they are familiar.
The post-holder will be responsible for overseeing effective & comprehensive communication between the therapy and S&C teams during performance meetings, to ensure the highest standard of athlete care is delivered. It will be expected that the post-holder will make the final decision upon the management of injured athletes where necessary, while facilitating the working relationship between the relevant therapist, strength and conditioning coach and playing coach.
Person Specification
Essential
− Physiotherapist or Sports Therapist educated to degree level
− Membership to relevant professional body (CSP or Society of Sports Therapists)
− Malpractice and public liability insurance
− Current first aid certificate from a recognised organisation
− Minimum 3 years post graduate experience in both clinical and a sporting environment within a lead role
Desirable
− Experience in mentoring or supporting students or new graduates preferable
− Within of working within sport across a range of age groups
− Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team
− Sports Trauma Management qualification
Hours of work: 8hrs per week (0.2FTE) Term time commitment only. 6 hours essential on Monday for performance meetings and evening student clinic. 2 further hours flexible for mentoring according to applicant availability
