Job Description
Main Objectives
• To operate the Academy’s Sports Medicine Department in keeping with Elite Player Performance Plan guidelines, best practice and the Club’s ethos.
• To organize the provision of physiotherapy care for Academy players and staff.
• To be responsible for the schoolboy physiotherapy clinic for the Academy and U7/8’s Development Centre.
• To support the Lead Academy Sports Scientist with the provision of the Academy Sports Science programme.
• To support the Lead Academy Strength and Conditioning Coach with the Academy Strength and Conditioning programme.
Summary of Duties
• To provide a professional physiotherapy service to Academy players and staff. Including the assessment and diagnosis of injury and the formulation of appropriate goal orientated management plans.
• To manage Academy medical and therapy staff to ensure the objectives are achieved.
• To ensure a thorough medical and neuromusculoskeletal screening procedure is performed on all Academy players. Including appropriate reporting and formulation of subsequent treatment and management strategies.
• To provide pitch side cover during training and matches. Including the provision of physiotherapy and emergency aid as required.
• To be responsible for reviewing and formulating clinical governance strategies.
• To ensure all Elite Player Performance Plan requirements are met.
• To assist in the provision of a sports medicine service for the U21 and first team squads, as directed by the Head of Sports Medicine.
• To maintain appropriate medical and physiotherapy records players in keeping with Club, CSP and HCPC requirements.
• To remain up-to-date with advances in the fields of physiotherapy and sports medicine through regular CPD activities.
• To plan an appropriate CPD programme for the sports medicine department.
• To effectively manage the academy sports medicine department budget and ensure medical equipment and stock is maintained.
• To attend and report on any Inter-departmental/Academy Management Team meetings that are arranged.
• To assist with any other reasonable duties as directed by management staff.
Essential
• BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy or equivalent.
• MCSP and HCPC registered.
• Chartered Physiotherapist
• Excellent communication skills with a polite and courteous manner.
• Ability to liaise with footballers, coaches, management and other football related individuals in a professional manner.
• Have a flexible attitude to work.
• Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
• Be organized and have good time management skills
• The ability to meet stringent deadlines.
• Be able to adapt to different, changing and challenging situations.
• Have the drive and enthusiasm to set high standards and achieve company objectives.
• Have a personable approach.
• Knowledge and understanding to company policies/procedures and regulations relating to your role.
Desirable
• Previous experience of working within professional football.
• Have a full clean driving license
• FA Learning Safeguarding Children Certificate.
• FA Intermediate First Aid for Sport or equivalent.
• Experience of working with young elite athletes.
