Academy Physiotherapists / Sports Therapists – Exeter City Football Club

Job Description
Exeter City Football Club are seeking part-time and casual Physiotherapists and Sports Therapists to assist their Academy Sports Science and Medicine Team in the transition of young athletes into full-time professionals. The successful applicant will be responsible for pitch-side cover, acute injury assessment and early injury management of young players (9 – 18 years of age) in training and match settings during evenings and weekends. Successful applicants will be expected to work within the framework for the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP) for a Category 3 Academy; this opportunity requires a focus on the development of young athletes with the early identification of injury risk and the implementation of accurate prevention strategies being essential. Applicants will be expected to commit to 2-3 regular time slots per week for evening/weekend training sessions or matches throughout the season and must be willing to complete or have completed the FA Intermediate First Aid for Sports Qualification.

Duties:
Medical Provision at Matches and Training
• Independent pitch-side cover under the overall direction of the Head Academy Physiotherapist
• Acute injury assessment and management of Academy players.
• The provision of organised clinics during training sessions and pre/post games.
• Communicate injury updates to the Head Academy Physiotherapist

Injury Management
• To provide evidence-based assessment and acute management to injured Academy players.
• Complete all necessary medical documentation on the appropriate day/night of service delivery.
• Place player welfare, safety and education as a top priority at all times.
• Implement rehabilitation programs under the direction of the Head Academy Physiotherapist and Senior Physiotherapists.

Injury Reduction Strategies
• Work alongside the sports science team in order to deliver injury prevention strategies to all players throughout the season.
• To educate players on responsible management of injuries and injury prevention strategies.

Communication
• Ensure effective communication with relevant Academy coaching staff, medical personnel and parents/carers where relevant and provide updates on individual’s rehabilitation.
• Complete all documentation as per CSP guidelines
• To partake in the reporting of injuries and auditing within the academy

Essential Requirements
• Chartered Physiotherapist or Qualified Sports Therapist
• Experience working within a sports environment
• A proven interest in sports physiotherapy and performance development
• Previous pitch-side immediate care experience
• High professional standards and a commitment to continued professional development.
• Prepared to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• To have or be willing to complete the FA Intermediate First Aid for Sports Qualification
• To have or be willing to complete the FA Safeguarding Children Qualification
• Complete an enhanced Disclosure and Barring service (DBS) check (formally CRB)

Desirable Attributes
• Experience in the provision of Physiotherapy / Sports Therapy within an elite sports environment
• Experience of working within a paediatric environment
• Previous Sports Science degree
• Relevant post-graduate CPD courses
