The Club has a rare opening for the key position of Senior Professional Development lead phase Coach within its Academy. This is a demanding full time role and will be based at our training ground in Portsmouth with significant travel required throughout the south of England.
The Academy has produced a significant number of professional players from its organisation who are now representing the club at first team level. We believe this exciting role will continue to enhance our capabilities in young player development.
The purpose of the role is to work under the direction of the Academy Head of Coaching within the strategy set by the Academy Manager to produce and develop players to the standard set by the Club. The applicant must be able to demonstrate that they can develop players so that they improve and perform to the best of their potential and are consequently able to maximise their potential.
Importantly the person appointed to this role will take responsibility for, and manage both our Scholars Group and their own development in order to ensure their knowledge of the sport is leading edge at all times. The willingness and passion of the individual to gain further qualifications, knowledge and experience must be ably demonstrated. Clearly we expect the successful applicant to build sustainable and productive relationships with key staff throughout the Club, parents, and the various Leagues.
In addition to the result areas noted the Senior Professional Development Coach will provide hands-on coaching to our 18-21 year -old squad, give practical demonstrations and presentations as well as manage matches and analysis sessions.
High levels of skill in providing one to one feedback and experience of working in multi-discipline teams are necessities as are excellent written and oral communication abilities. Experience of coaching in an Academy Football Club and using the PMA system is essential. Applicants must also hold a valid Safeguarding Certificate, FA Advanced Youth Award.
To be considered for the role applicants must hold a current UEFA ‘A’ – licence or Pro-licence and can demonstrate success in coaching and mentoring young players. A degree level qualification in a sport- related subject and playing at a high level are desirable.
