An exciting opportunity has arisen at the Bolton Wanderers Academy for a Sports Scientist.
Reporting to the Head of Academy Sports Science, the purpose of the role is to ensure the optimum fitness potential of Academy players (U9-U16).
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
– Improve the fitness of Academy players (U9-U16) using safe and effective procedures that will help to prevent injury from occurring and improve performance.
– Responsible for monitoring long-term athletic development.
– Assisting the medical team in prescribing and delivering rehabilitation programmes for all Academy players (U9-U16).
– Update the Academy player management system with all relevant fitness training information.
– Continual personal development training as required, including attending courses, seminars, conferences, workshops, and forums.
– Report to the Academy Manager and relevant coaches as necessary with regards to updates on player profiles.
– Design and deliver effective warm up and conditioning protocols for specific training sessions and matches, incorporating specific fitness components for appropriate sessions.
– Liaise with Academy part-time coaches to ensure appropriate fitness content is being filtered through to schoolboy training sessions.
– Deliver the fitness test battery to all Academy players including regular testing, analysis, presentation of results and follow up tests as required.
– Organise and oversee Academy (U9-16) resistance training sessions, promoting small group work and additional sessions.
– Coordinate nutritional requirements including general dietary strategies, performance-related nutrition, and optimal fluid intake (including away trip preparations and other venues).
– Plan and arrange the delivery of fitness/resistance sessions to schoolboy groups and monitor progression of these sessions.
QUALIFICATIONS & KNOWLEDGE
– Relevant Degree
– Working towards BASES qualification, and/or UKSCA Accreditation
– Experience of working in an elite football environment
– Understanding of long-term athletic development and periodisation in youth football
