Chief Executive Officer – UK Athletics

Job Description
Athletics is the Nation’s number one Olympic and Paralympic sport and one of the world’s few truly global sports, with 200 countries
participating at the last World Athletics Championships alone. UK Athletics (“UKA”) is the National Governing Body for Athletics in the
UK. Our four primary roles are: governance of the sport, staging world class events, securing commercial income to fund the sport and
developing athletes and coaches to achieve success on the world stage.
UK Athletics has worked closely with the Home Country Athletic Federations (“HCAFs”) to finalise and agree a new vision for athletics
in the UK. This fresh, ambitious, unified vision for the sport covers all areas of activity, including mass participation, athlete pathways,
coaching, elite performance, major events and commercial income, whilst putting schools, clubs, coaches and volunteers at its heart.
UKA is now seeking a new Chief Executive to lead the organisation.

THE ROLE: OVERVIEW
Lead the development and execution of UKA’s strategy.
Lead, manage and motivate the senior management team, with clear
objectives and accountabilities.
Work in partnership with the CEOs of the HCAFs on those areas of the vision
for athletics in the UK that require close collaboration.
Ensure delivery of the World Class Performance Programme and the
associated targets for medal success on the world stage.
Drive the continued delivery and innovation of world class events to build the
brand of athletics and engage the public
Drive the development of new sources of commercial income to maximise
investment back into the sport.
Develop an inspirational culture that is open, collaborative and drives
behaviours consistent with UKA’s values.
Develop long-term, effective working relationships with key international
and national stakeholders and the wider sport.
Build a world class organisation characterised by the highest standards of
leadership and governance.

THE CANDIDATE: ESSENTIAL SKILLS
Experience in successfully setting and implementing strategy for an
organisation of a similar scale and complexity as CEO, or senior equivalent,
particularly through periods of change.
Knowledge and an understanding of sport (athletics desirable), especially
governance structures and the opportunities and challenges that affords.
Experience of negotiating and maintaining significant commercial contracts
with sponsors and broadcasters (desirable).
Ability to work effectively with a Board of Directors, cultivate strong working
relationships and lead in partnership with others.
Strong commitment to professional development of staff; successful track
record of retaining a diverse and high performing team.
Excellent interpersonal, leadership, communication and influencing skills.
Energetic and enthusiastic leader with the ability to set clear priorities,
delegate and guide investment in people and systems.
Strong financial acumen, analytic, organisational and problem solving skills,
which support and enable sound decision making.
