Chief Executive – South West England – Butterfly Conservation

With more than 28,000 members in the UK and 32 volunteer branches, Butterfly Conservation is a leading charity and the world’s largest organisation dedicated to the conservation of butterflies and moths.

Butterfly Conservation is at an exciting and important stage in its development. The Trustees are looking to appoint a new Chief Executive with passion, vision and leadership skills to inspire the Charity to achieve its mission and to deliver its long-term strategy. The Chief Executive will be responsible for overall management of BC, and for growing the Charity’s capacity to make a critical contribution to species conservation in a rapidly changing environment.

We are seeking candidates with proven leadership credibility within the environmental sector and experience of leading and managing a substantial team. Knowledge of ecology and conservation techniques as well as experience of working within a conservation organisation and managing volunteers would be advantageous.

The successful candidate will have an understanding of, and commitment to, the natural world and its conservation and a strong grasp of financial, control and risk management aspects of effectively leading a significant organisation. Candidates will also demonstrate a proven track record in strategic decision making, people management and development, and influence at senior levels, as well as having excellent communication skills.
