Why this role matters:
Working in the British Rowing commercial team means that you’ll be shaping and delivering on the key partnerships which help to bring British Rowing to life and bring investment into the national governing body. Working with the Director of Partnerships & Communications, our commercial manager will negotiate and manage the external partnerships via which British Rowing speaks to new audiences and adds value to our membership. You’ll be leading the partnership activation plans with global brands like SAS and Mizuno, building a strategy to maximise partnership revenues while maintaining a cohesive and complementary relationship the various teams of staff and volunteers. In addition, you’ll manage British Rowing licensing and merchandise operations online and at events.
You will work jointly with the Innovation team to identify and deliver longer-term business development opportunities for British Rowing especially in the fast-moving area of indoor rowing (health and fitness).
Responsibilities:
• responsibility for some of the key commercial partnerships which enable the day-to-day delivery of British Rowing commercial operations.
• support the development and execution of British Rowing’s commercial strategy to deliver increased revenue across the organisation;
• research, generate and cultivate relationships with potential commercial partners. Design and present tailored proposals, negotiate final partnership terms and close partnership deals with these potential partners;
• manage the day-to-day relationship and contractual management of all British Rowing partners to ensure that British Rowing’s obligations are delivered effectively and, where appropriate, expanded partnership opportunities are presented to the partner including up-selling and cross-selling new opportunities;
• develop strong and productive relationships with internal British Rowing functions including Communications & Marketing, Performance, Membership & Rowing Community and Innovation to ensure partnerships are effectively activated and new commercial opportunities are identified and followed through;
• take the lead on the commercialisation of British Rowing-owned events, having overall responsibility for sponsors and other partners, ticketing and hospitality;
• support the Director of Partnerships & Communications to develop, plan and implement the commercialisation of British Rowing-licensed products and services;
• manage British Rowing’s day-to-day online and at-event retail operations;
• work closely with the Director of Innovation to commercialise and take to market new products for British Rowing including but not limited to indoor rowing.
Application criteria
• Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving and negotiation skills
• Proven experience of building and maintaining relationships with commercial organisations
• Proven experience of contract management
• Proven experience of proactively generating commercial revenue
• Experience of working in the sports industry is desirable but not essential
