Community Sports Officer – Darlington Mowden Park RFC – Darlington, DL2 1DL

Job Description

Following promotion runs and a ground-breaking deal to acquire the 25,000-seater Darlington Arena, ambitious Club Darlington Mowden Park have an opening for a Community Sports Officer. The exciting post will be a key part of the clubs growing off field team. Revival of what is now the largest rugby specific venue aside from Twickenham Stadium, alongside the Club’s broad strategic plans that have recently seen coup involvements such as New Zealand All Blacks and Rugby World Cup, represent opportunity for the correct candidate to gain unprecedented exposure and become part of a quite pioneering sports organisation. Key areas of focus will be:
• Working within the Community Team to engage with schools, clubs, community groups and the public to increase participation in sport and physical activity
• Work specifically with groups on development initiatives based on needs
• Delivery of sport and physical activity sessions within the community
• Working alongside the off-field team to grow the community programme wider

Responsibilities

• To work with the Community Manager to develop partnerships with various organisations within the community.
• To promote the services of the Community Team.
• To specifically work with schools, clubs and community groups on development initiatives.
• To work with the Marketing & Communications Executive to actively promote the work of the Community Team.
• To ensure all documentation relating to activity is completed and reported to the Community Manager.
• To keep detailed and well maintained relationships with partners.
• To prepare well structured, progressive activity and coaching programmes ensuring a high quality, enjoyable experience centred on the needs of the participants.
• To complete comprehensive monitoring and evaluation for all programmes.
• To work with the wider off-field team to deliver events at Mowden Park.

Candidate Specification

Required

• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build and manage lasting partnerships
• Excellent attention to detail
• Excellent organisation and time management skills
• Excellent ability to communicate and engage with a wide range of partners
• An enthusiastic, committed and self driven individual
• Willingness and flexibility to work weekends and occasional week nights
• A range of sports qualifications (to minimum level 2 or working towards)
• First aid certificate and completion of Safeguarding and Protection training
• Must be willing to undergo an enhanced DBS disclosure
• The ability to deliver initiatives effectively both as an individual and as part of a team
• A passion for sport and developing a career within sport
• Understanding and experience of working with schools and clubs

Advantageous

• Educated to degree level
• Valid driving license and access to a suitable vehicle
• A proven track record of sports coaching experience
• Experience of working within a sports/rugby environment.
• Experience of working with events
• Practical sports development experience and skills
