The Grocer prides itself on its news values, breaking stories that our readers love (and the local and national media pinch). It’s key to The Grocer’s well-earned reputation as one of Britain’s biggest, most influential and most high-profile b2b titles. And where once it was on a weekly basis, today it’s also daily – via our award-winning website – complemented by a host of other channels and social media.
As deputy news editor, we’re looking for an experienced and ambitious journalist to help lead and develop our award-winning team’s news coverage.
You’ll be working on our six-strong retail news desk, supporting the news editor, and working alongside the web editor, chief reporter and two further reporters.
You’ll need a proven record in breaking news and working senior contacts, as your primary responsibility will still be as a brilliant journalist. But at the same time, the role will give you oversight of patches, sections, channels and individuals. And we want someone who cannot just manage stories, but help shape our coverage in the huge and fast-evolving grocery landscape.
And that’s the other thing that makes this role so rewarding: the topic. Writing about food and drink, entrepreneurship, economics, online, the environment, health and obesity, big brands, startups, plcs, the high street, consumers and shopping, The Grocer is as fascinating as it is huge.
The Grocer is the flagship of William Reed, a Sunday Times fast-track media, exhibitions and consultancy business with offices in the UK, France and the US. We’re based in newly refurbished offices in Crawley, 20 minutes from the seaside town of Brighton, and 10 minutes from Gatwick, offering speedy connections to London and the rest of the world (recent trips for the team have included Malaysia, Paris, the US, Honduras, Norway).
The company offers a range of further benefits including
A contributory pension scheme
Life Assurance
25 days’ holiday
Discounted gym membership
Free car parking
Free shuttle service from Three Bridges station
