Job Description
About Surrey Cricket Foundation
Surrey Cricket Foundation is the charity which supports and helps improve recreational cricket in Surrey and South London. It is one of 39 County Cricket Boards set up by the England and Wales Cricket Board. Our aim is to increase participation in the game both on and off the field.
We believe cricket is a force for good which can make a lifelong positive impact on people’s lives. Our focus is to give as many people as possible – across all genders, ages, disabilities and diverse communities – the opportunity to play or be a part of the game.
This is a very exciting time for cricket. With both national teams World Champions and performing well in all other formats, the ECB has just launched a new 5-year strategy to grow the game from the grassroots up, with investment to match. At SCF we support and build on this strategy, and the new Director of Participation will shape and lead this work over the next five years and beyond.
Our values
• Moving Forward
A strong desire and belief to be the best that we can be
• Taking Responsibility
We follow protocol, and speak out when things are wrong
• Working Together
We work with and through others to achieve the best outcomes for the Foundation
About the role
We have ambitious plans to grow the game of cricket in Surrey and the London Boroughs of South London.
The new Director of Participation, reporting to the Chairman, will lead the team to develop and deliver these plans: growing and nurturing clubs and leagues, making the game accessible to all regardless of age, gender or physical ability, and connecting with players, volunteers, and fans across every community in our county. In so doing you will help cricket be a force for social good and make a positive impact throughout Surrey and South London.
You will be responsible for leading, inspiring and developing a committed and high performing team (see organisation chart below) and will also sit on the Surrey County Cricket Club (SCCC) Leadership Group. You will be the face of SCF and will establish and maintain the best relationships with SCCC, ECB, all cricket bodies in Surrey and South London, and other SCF partners. You will also work with SCF Trustees and SCCC to generate additional income to expand and sustain the growth in participation.
The role is far-reaching and has many competing complex priorities. You’ll be expected to provide leadership and inspire and develop the team to deliver these priorities ensuring the organisation has the culture, capabilities and skills needed to meet our strategic ambitions.
Are you the right candidate?
Our ideal candidate will be a proven leader: comfortable with ambiguity, flexible in approach, and able to provide clarity and focus to all stakeholders.
You will be an excellent communicator; bring a minimum of five years of experience in a leadership role, and you will provide evidence of driving sports participation and engagement levels.
You will have a natural ability to inspire, develop and motivate others, and the leadership skills to develop, grow and stretch the team. You will be results driven and outcomes focused.
You will be able to demonstrate past experience of developing and maintaining strategic relationships with external partners. Some evidence of previous fundraising experience would also be an advantage.
You do not need to have previously held a leadership role within cricket, but a high level of knowledge and a passion for the game is essential.
You will have a degree level or equivalent qualification in Management and Leadership.
If you are an ambitious leader, with a passion for growing sports participation, and you’re looking for a new challenge, we’d love to hear from you.
