Founded in 2012, 65twenty is a new media publishing company enjoying rapid growth. We are a profitable business with no investment and own all of our properties, which include TheLADbible, TheSPORTbible, Pretty52 and TheODDSbible. We have a combined 21 million followers across all of our platforms and 35 million unique monthly visitors across our websites.  Since its founding, the company which initially began with a workforce of 2, now employs over 50 staff across our Manchester Head Office and our London office based in Shoreditch.

The role

Editor-in-chief based in our Manchester Office
Salary: 60-80k
One of the core pillars in the senior management team reporting directly to the CEO.
This individual is an expert in all things related to content and channel optimisation, brand consistency, operational, analytics and meaningful measurement.
Role is fully responsible of all editorial output of the company and working closely with the creative solutions team on native content. Provide the very best content experience for our audience.
The position collaborates with the departments of Sales, Creative Solutions, Marketing and IT to help define both the brand story and the story as interpreted by the consumer.

Responsibilities

Ensuring all content is on-brand, consistent in terms of style, quality and tone of voice, and optimized for search and user experience for all channels of content including editorial, social media and video.
Mapping out a content strategy that supports and extends new publications, new social channels, Audience development and team structure.
The development of a functional content calendar
Managing the senior team of writers, editors and content creators with best practices in messaging, writing, and style.
Work closely with company’s sales and creative solutions team on all creative and branding initiatives to ensure high quality performance for clients.
Integration of content activities within native advertising campaigns.
Gathering social, market data and handle web analytics (or manage those who do) and make recommendations based on those results. Working with owners of particular content to revise and measure particular content goals
Developing standards, systems and best practice for content creation, distribution, and maintenance.
Establishing workflow for requesting, creating, editing and publishing. Work with technical team to implement appropriate CMS.
Participation in the hiring and supervising of content leaders in all content verticals.
Creation of a strategy for developing content quality and volume, both editorially and video.
Responsible for negotiating and building the relevant content relationships with other publishers. This could include traffic swapping, video content, editorial content and content licensing.
Setting, implementing and measuring targets and KPI’s of the content teams.
Responsible for budgeting and forecasting. Traffic, social growth, video views, recruitment and costs would need to be budgeted and forecasted for.

Success metrics

Positive brand recognition and consistency across chosen published channels.
An increase in defined customer engagement metrics (measured by users taking the desired action…i.e. conversions, subscription, purchase, etc.).
Website and social media traffic growth.

We are seeking an ambitious, self-starter to join our team as Editorial Director who will drive this area of our business forward. With previous experience of running a young, dynamic team, the Editorial Director will be responsible for motivating and scaling up the existing editorial team. Essential to the role is an understanding and knowledge of social media which will be combined with strong experience in traditional publishing. The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level with a journalism background and strong commercial acumen.

Requirements

Skill at both long-form content creation and real-time (immediate) content creation and distribution strategies and tactics.
Up-to-date with new digital ideas, techniques and styles (i.e. art, film, social media, television programmes, music, fashion, technology, trends, etc.
Fluency in web and social media analytics tools
Project management skills to manage schedules and deadlines within editorial and video teams, and on-going campaigns.
Is highly creative and imaginative, and curious about clients’ products and services.
The ability to lead and inspire large teams of creative personnel and content creators to achieve goals.
The ability to understand what the audience needs to know and how they want to consume it and identify new ways in which this can be done.
Has gravitas with senior clients and the team, is confident presenting ideas at a senior level.
Comfortable with acting as the company’s spokesman for content
Ability to negotiate
