Ethics & Welfare Coordinator – British Gymnastics

Job Description
British Gymnastics is the UK Governing Body for gymnastics. We exist to support, lead and inspire all those involved or interested in gymnastics; from the creation of new programmes and activities at grass roots level in the community, to the development of talent producing international gymnasts.

The Ethics & Welfare Department is responsible for safeguarding, equality, health and safety, data protection and other ethical issues. It provides support and services to all departments across the organisation and to the wider gymnastics community.

Summary
The overall purpose of this role is to support the implementation and development of the Ethics & Welfare Case Management System along with other key activities and services within the department to ensure compliance, promote best practice and facilitate learning & development.

The Role
Duties will include:
• Supporting and co-ordinating a small case load working with the Safeguarding Case Manager and other parties to ensure effective outcomes and actions are achieved.
• Facilitating or coordinating safeguarding activities including but not limited to: risk assessments, investigations, updating documentation and minute taking.
• Providing a point of contact for Independent Advisors; maintaining the skills register of Advisors for investigations and case referrals, ensuring contracts for services are in-place/relevant, processing their expenses etc.
• Collating and analysing department metrics to determine patterns of behaviour
• Responding to department telephone calls, emails etc. providing professional support, guidance and assistance on matters routine for Safeguarding, promoting adherence to standards
• Supporting the Ethics & Welfare Department Strategy & action plan (as required) including promoting good practice in communications and actions, organising CPD events/ conferences and contributing to training development opportunities and needs analysis
• Supporting DBS processing and referral activities e.g. interviewing subjects, taking references, conducting risk assessments, issuing notifications etc.
• Maintaining effective internal communications with regards to department actions and activitiesand keeping relevant parties . appropriately appraised of relevant actions and activities
• Facilitating H&S, Data Protection activities and training e.g. audits, workplace assessments, fire emergency arrangements, PAT testing etc and coordinating work station assessments.

The Person
To be effective in this role the ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the ability to learn quickly on the job and display elements of the following:
• A good understanding of Ethics & Welfare areas e.g. Safeguarding, Health & Safety, Child Protection, Equality etc
• Knowledge of sport in the UK including structure of sports clubs, ideally gymnastics but this is not essential
• Demonstrate effective investigation and interview skills
• Excellent customer service and communication skills for writing reports, letter and dealing with a broad range of questions and queries from internal and external customers
• Very good IT and administration skills, including a good working knowledge of MS Office and the ability to work with databases and internal financial systems
