Job description
London Scottish, based in South-West London, currently competes in the Greene King IPA Championship, the second tier of professional rugby in England.
An opening for the position of Head of Medical Services has become available for an aspiring, enthusiastic, experienced, physiotherapist.

Qualifications and knowledge
Essential:
Qualified Physiotherapist
HCPC registered
Member of the CSP
Level 3 PHICIS qualification or working towards
Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing CPD portfolio

Desirable:
3 years post graduate with previous experience working in elite professional sport
Post graduate degree in sports medicine or equivalent

Role Summary:
The Head of Medical Services (HOMS) will be responsible for providing strategic direction and implementing the medical provision for all professional players, approximately 35 in number. The HOMS will co-ordinate all aspects of care, including working closely with the team doctor on all medical related matters as well as with the physiotherapists on musculoskeletal issues. The HOMS will also be responsible for bridging the gap between the medical and other management teams, communicating all matters effectively in a timely manner. The HOMS will also act as Clinical Governance Lead and responsible for ensuring the department adheres to and maintains Minimum Standards as directed by the RFU.

Key responsibilities also include but are not limited to:
• Provide accurate diagnosis and oversee treatment and rehabilitation of the professional players.
• Formulate, co-ordinate and supervise detailed recorded prehabilitation and rehabilitation programmes for allocated players.
• Liaise with the Head Coach regarding the progress of all injured players on a daily basis.
• Provide training and match day physiotherapy cover to the professional squad.
• Provide training and match day pitchside trauma and emergency aid cover for the first-team.
• To co-ordinate rehabilitation requirements, programmes and progression in conjunction with the strength and conditioning coaches.
• To manage the medical budget for the club’s medical equipment and consumables.
• To lead the Injury Surveillance programme including communicating feedback to the other management teams.
• Keeping documentation on all aspects of injury management in accordance to the standards set by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) and Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) utilising the Rugby Squad software.
• Ensuring all medical staff are compliant with documentation guidelines through running regular audits.
• Liaise closely with the ‘First-team Physiotherapist’ regarding assessment findings and treatment progression for the players, injury status and progress on a daily basis.
• To lead on developing rehabilitation protocols.
• To keep abreast of current best practices, maintain CPD and take an active role in the department’s CPD programme.
