Head of Physiotherapy – Academy – Liverpool Football Club

Job Description
A unique opportunity has arisen for an exceptional candidate to join our team at Liverpool Football Club Academy, following an internal promotion.

ROLE: Liverpool FC Academy are looking to appoint a Head of Physiotherapy reporting to the Academy Doctor (direct) and the Academy Director who will be responsible for the following;

• Clinical responsibility for the health/ physiotherapy requirements of all students/ youth players/ triallists;
• Optimise medical care on all aspects of students/ players/ triallists health including carrying out and overseeing all investigations as requested/ required including medical imaging, blood tests, urine tests etc
• Diagnose and establish treatment/ rehabilitation plans for all students/ youth/ triallist players and oversee preventative strategies, including liaison with the Academy Doctor and specialists during rehabilitation;
• Attend consultations with specialists to ensure that appropriate treatment decisions are made
• Liaise with football management staff including coaches, fitness coaches etc in order to optimise student/ youth player/ triallist performance and overall health
• Organise and attend pre-signing protocols as requested/ required
• Responsible for the management and clinical supervision of the Academy Physiotherapy team, including sessional physiotherapists and management of physiotherapy cover for all games at the Academy – home and away
• Maintain contemporaneous medical notes to an excellent standard and use Club reporting databases and reporting protocols – maintaining their use and continuously developing reporting requirements, including provision of medical KPI’s

PERSON: The successful candidate will be a member of the CSP and registered with the HCPC. An MSc in a related subject and management experience of a small team of physiotherapists within a football Academy or elite sport environment is essential. Experience of working within a first team football environment or other elite team sport would be advantageous.

Applicants must have managed a small team of physiotherapists, understand budgets and also have the ability to communicate effectively. The ability to demonstrate an understanding of the demands of working with young players and or children in an elite environment, and the ability to create the right ethos and development philosophy within a group of specialists is key. High levels of professionalism, role model behaviour and strong leadership skills are a prerequisite. Knowledge of safeguarding requirements and management of young players’/ children’s emotional needs and development is also important for this role; including attendance on certified safeguarding and first aid courses

T&C: This is a full time permanent position, based at the Academy in Kirkby, Liverpool with the requirement to work flexible hours and travel nationally and internationally.
