Hob Moor Oaks is York’s only Primary Special school for children with a wide range of special educational needs and disabilities. We currently have 89 children aged 2-11 with moderate, severe and profound learning difficulties including a significant number of children with additional needs from autism. The rapidly rising numbers reflect how popular and successful the school is and this has been the result of a huge team effort-staff, children, Governors, multi-professional team, and families.
Following the planned retirement of our current Head of School in summer 2015, we want to appoint an inspirational and talented leader to continue her outstanding work through exciting and challenging times.
The role offers the opportunity to work in a unique Federation with Hob Moor Primary school in the same building. Restorative Practice is our glue.
We are looking for an experienced school leader who:
Can focus their leadership on teaching and learning to maximise learner achievement
Is passionate and can make a significant contribution to the development of the local offer for children with special educational needs and disabilities.
Be outward facing and focused on excellence at all times, believing that anything is possible
Can model outstanding teaching and learning-someone who gets into classrooms
The successful candidate will have:
A proven track record of outstanding leadership -able to work in a complex organisation.
Excellent knowledge and experience of working with children with a wide range of special educational needs and disabilities
Excellent communication and inter-personal skills-an approachable person with a great sense of humour.
Great resilience and optimism; open and honest
