Position Type: Full-Time with Lagardère Sports UK LTD / Commonwealth Games Federation Partnership / Birmingham 2022
Salary: 60,000 to 70,000 GBP

About the Role
The Head of Sport Competition will lead sport competition planning and delivery work for the Commonwealth Games Federation Partnerships (CGFP) (a joint venture between the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) and Lagardère Sports). The role will be responsible for supporting the CGFP’s work for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Organising Committee. The role reports to the Director of Sport.
The Head of Sport Competition is responsible for the integrated planning, delivery and management of all elements of Sport Competition for the Games. Central to this role is the fostering and management of external relationships, including significant liaison with international and national sports bodies, technical officials and athletes to effectively plan and deliver all sport specific competition requirements. Relationships with and management of a range of other identified external stakeholders, sport agencies and delivery partners will also be important.
This role will work very closely with all Games Functional Areas, in particular, Venue Development and Overlay, Venue Management and Games Services to ensure that all sport specific elements are integrated into Games wide planning.
Key Responsibilities
• Ensure that the Sport Competition programme is delivered on time and to the required technical and competition standards of each International Federation
• Lead the input into design and overlay of new build and incumbent venues from a sport perspective to meet the needs of sport competitions being conducted in those venues, to ensure that it gives athletes the best chance of producing their optimum performance
• Ensure the Field of Play (FOP) for each of the sport competitions is designed and delivered on time and in line with the required technical and competition standards of the International Federations
• Recruit and manage Sport Competition staff to build a strong delivery focussed competition management team
• Support Competition Managers to prepare detailed operational plans for the conduct of each sport, ensuring the requirements and rules/regulations of the International Sport Federation can be met in the delivery of each sport
• Foster relationships and maintain communications with each International Federation and associated National Governing Bodies, preparing for and obtaining all sport specific technical sanctions and approvals
• Ensure the standard of officiating at the Games is of the highest level through appropriate liaison with sport Governing Bodies concerned with the identification, training, development and appointment of Technical Officials
• Contribute to the development and finalisation of the Competition Schedule, in relation to identified sport specific competition elements – including leading the Competition Schedule Working Group
• Develop all requirements for Sport Competition readiness activities to ensure sport specific elements are adequately tested and implemented ahead of Games time
• Thoroughly manage all aspects of the Sport Competition budget allocation, seeking to maximise identified service levels within agreed budget allocations
Key Experience and Skills Requirements
• Significant knowledge and experience working in sport competition and/ or event management at a national and international level
• Extensive knowledge of a range of sport competition requirements and relevant integration into a multi-sport Games environment
• Previous experience working in a management role within the sport/ event industry, involving management of staff, large scale budgets and complex tasks
• Extensive experience of working with IFs and understanding the requirements of elite sport in a multi-sport Games environment
• Practical experience in sport specific programming and operational elements
• Exposure to and knowledge of international requirements for sports
• Experience in planning and delivery of multi-venue sport events
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including report writing
• Demonstrated strong organisational, interpersonal and communication skills to coordinate internal resources and build relationships with external partners
• Fluent in English in reading, writing, speaking and listening
