Loughborough University are delighted to invite applications for the role of Head of Strength and Conditioning (Performance Sport) here on campus.
The role will involve providing strategy and leadership to Loughborough Sport’s Strength and Conditioning team and working alongside the wider Performance Support team to support individual athletes, team sports and coaches.
Successful candidates will have significant experience of providing strength and conditioning support to elite athletes across several sports, and of leading and developing fellow coaches in providing this support. The candidate must have an unrivalled passion to developing practitioners, and be able to lead all forms of professional development across the Strength and Conditioning team, but also help provide development opportunities for coaches and other practitioners.
The main roles and responsibilities for this role are:
– To lead the provision of Strength and Conditioning support to Loughborough Sport Performance Athletes and the wider Loughborough athlete ecosystem, through the development of our team of professionals, placement students and volunteers
– To form a part of the Performance Support Leadership Team to, alongside professional coaches and practitioners, lead the interdisciplinary, holistic support to our athletes on campus and creating strategies to drive performance.
– To be responsible for the development of new systems and procedures designed to professionalise and develop the support to our athletes. To work with the Loughborough sporting ecosystem and key partners to create a unique high-performance practitioner development pathway
– To contribute to the integration between the Loughborough Sport and School of Sport, Exercise & Health Sciences (SSEHS) to ensure that the professional and practical work of the Loughborough Sport enhances the vocational relevance of teaching programmes wherever appropriate
– Become a technical figurehead for Strength and Conditioning at Loughborough University through high quality relationships and representation on a national stage.
Essential criteria:
– Significant experience of working as a coach or applied sports scientist with High Performance Athletes.
– Experience of providing Strength and Conditioning support to a professional sports team/athletes, sporting National Governing Body or a service institute (e.g. EIS, SIS)
– Previous experience of staff management and supervision.
– Experience of working in an interdisciplinary team of support providers (coach, physiotherapists, sports massage therapists, analysts, etc.) and being able to develop performance strategies with other specialisms
– Experience in creating personal development action plans for Strength and Conditioning coaches, and leading professional development opportunities for individuals and groups
