Job Description
Liverpool is the host City for the World Artistic Gymnastic Championships in 2022. The World Championships will be one of the largest international sporting events ever to be held in the City with an estimated 600 world class gymnasts from 90 countries taking part in 10 days of competition.
Liverpool will join an elite list of cities that have hosted the World Artistic Gymnastic Championships including Doha (2018), Montreal (1985 and 2017), Glasgow (2015), Tokyo (2011), London (2009), Melbourne (2005), Lausanne (1997), Brisbane (1994), Birmingham (1993) and Paris (1992).
Hosting the World Gymnastics Championships in 2022 provides a unique opportunity to showcase the city to a global audience and demonstrates the importance of major sporting events to Liverpool’s future ambitions. To support delivery of a successful World championships, Liverpool City Council (LCC) and British Gymnastics (BG) are creating an Event Delivery Board. The purpose of the board is to provide oversight and direction to the development, planning and staging of the Championships in 2022.
The board will bring together strategic representation from Liverpool City Council (x2), British Gymnastics (x2) and UK Sport (x1). These members will be complemented by a number of external appointees and an independent Chair.
We are now recruiting for the following roles.
•An independent Chair
•Up to six independent Board Members, dependent on interest and relevant experience
In line with UK Sport governance best practice the total number of board members will not exceed 12 members. We are particularly keen to represent elite athlete experience via independent board membership.
The posts are not remunerated. Reasonable expenses will be paid.
