Independent Director – British Water Ski & Wakeboard

Job Description
British Water Ski & Wakeboard (BWSW) is the national governing body within the UK and a membership association funded by its members for the benefit of its members. We are the only body acting on behalf of the interests of water skiers and wakeboarders – a non-profit making organisation with all of our income invested in developing and protecting the sport across the UK from the grassroots level through to our top athletes.

BWSW now has a vacancy for an Independent Directors with the skills to advise the Board and oversee the organisation. In terms of diversity women are under represented on the Board and we particularly welcome applications from women with the appropriate skills and experience.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT OF DIRECTORS (“Directors”) OF THE BRITISH WATER SKI FEDERATION LIMITED (trading as British Water Ski and Wakeboard) (“the Organisation”)

All Directors, of the Board of Directors of the Organisation (“the Board”) are responsible for the direction and corporate governance of the Organisation. Directors are expected to provide independent opinion to the Board as requested from time to time and, working with the other Directors to:

• ensure that the Organisation complies with its Articles of Association.
• further the objects of the Organisation.
• formulate and review the strategic objectives of the Organisation.
• oversee financial information.
• act in the interests of the Organisation.
• take appropriate professional advice in matters from time to time.
• act in an external role on behalf of the Organisation, by networking and liaising with key stakeholders, sponsors and funding partners as requested from time to time.
• Assist in an area with a specific portfolio to be agreed (e.g. fund raising, communications / PR).
• Contribute to organisational development and business strategy through constructive challenge and input as requested from time to time.

Time Commitment
There are usually 8 board meetings in a year typically held mid-week during office hours in London or at our HQ in Chertsey, Surrey. Some additional ad hoc travel may be required.
