The fostering
panels usually last around 4 hours and are held on Tuesday mornings at our Allendale Road office.
The panel provides independent oversight of the recruitment, assessment and review of foster carer’s and connected persons and makes reasoned decisions on their suitability to foster. The panel also considers and makes recommendations on long-term fostering matches.
Applicants should have experience either professionally, personally or both, of the placement of children in foster care, the placement of children with wider families or friends or the needs of children being cared for away from their birth family.
We are looking to recruit people with one or more of the following:
• Experience of diversity issues
• Medical, health or mental health background
• social work background
• education background
• recent experience of fostering children.
• personal experience of being a looked after child.
• experience in child/adult care.
Good listening and communication skills are essential along with the ability to make an assessment based on the written and oral information presented to the panel in order to discuss and make decisions in a balanced and informed manner. Panel members will be expected to undergo a yearly appraisal and attend quarterly Panel Business Meetings and training sessions as required.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and we expect all employees to share this commitment and undertake appropriate checks.
A small fee is payable to panel members.
