OVERVIEW:
Formed in 2002 to improve refereeing standards, the PGMOL group officiate across all the Premier League, English Football League and FA Competitions – funded by all three organisations. The PGMOL is responsible for the recruitment, training, development and mentoring of 112 referees and 257 assistant referees.
To deliver the quality of refereeing required by the Competitions, PGMOL mirrors the setup of a football club with coaches, sports scientists, sports psychologists and physiotherapists all part of the improvement process.
ROLE PURPOSE:
The Internal Communications Executive will support the Head of Professional Referee Development (PRD) and coordinate all matters related to the PGMOL Portal, particularly regarding content coordination and the development of e-learning materials.
Working contacts: PGMOL Leadership team, Head of PRD, Operations team, sports scientists, sports psychologist, observers, match delegates, coaches and match officials
MAIN DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Drawing on previous experience to develop training content for the portal (to include producing articles and managing forums) and working with the education partners to develop specialist e-learning material.
• Assisting the Head of PRD in the editorial approach to the portal, creating and
maintaining relevant content and ensuring regular updates are communicated to
users.
• Supporting the Operations team to regularly assess the portal functionalities and
overall content provision.
• Support the Operations team in relation to co-ordinating PGMOL events (e.g.
Conference Booking; Meetings; Fitness Tests etc.) through the portal.
• Supporting portal users – to include content research and training of PGMOL staff.
• Co-ordinating with stakeholders on all matters related to the management and
development of the portal.
• Liaising with the FA to extend the use of the system to other officials outside the
PGMOL.
Representing and promoting the interests of PGMOL with external stakeholders and organisations.
• Promoting the interests of PGMOL at all times with all PGMOL officials.
• Promoting a positive image of PGMOL in all dealings with external stakeholders and
organisations. This includes those relationships with the FA, PL, FL, LMA/PFA and the
media.
PERSON SPECIFICATION (EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, APTITUDES AND PERSONAL QUALITIES):
Essential:
Qualifications/experience:
• Experience of officiating on the National Group or the Select Group as a referee or
as an assistant referee within the last four seasons i.e. from 2012/13 onwards
• Ability to work under direction, whilst retaining the ability to exercise initiative
where appropriate
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Proactive and service/improvement-oriented approach
• Good team player
Knowledge:
• Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of current approaches to training and
developing match officials at Select Group or National Group level
Skills:
• Excellent oral and written communication skills – comfortable communicating at all
levels Excellent organisational skills, with ability to prioritise a mixed workload
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop and maintain effective
working relationships
• Excellent problem solving skills
• Complete familiarity with Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Desirable:
• Experience of developing/producing training and e-learning material
