Job Description

UK Sport is leading the drive to create British Olympic and World champions, in our role as the nation’s high performance sports agency responsible for investing in our brightest medal hopes. UK Sport’s investment played a pivotal role in delivering the remarkable success achieved by British athletes at the London Olympic and Paralympics Games. Our targets for Rio are even more ambitious.

‎UK Sport is also the strategic lead agency in the UK for supporting the bidding and staging of major sporting events, with a target of 100 events in the 10 years following London 2012. We also ensure the UK plays a strong and supportive role as a member of the international sporting community.

The Major Events and International Relations (MEIR) Team leads on the frontline implementation of UK Sport’s major events strategy, and works to advance the UK’s international sporting interests by developing, guiding and supporting successful international relations strategies with a range of sporting bodies and national partners.

The MEIR Officers support the team in managing and delivering business support services and lead on the delivery of technical support projects, including programmes such as the International Leadership Programme, IDEALS (International Development through Excellence and Leadership in Sport), and NGB Event Managers Knowledge Transfer Workshops, as well as leading on the funding review processes for our investment into Major Events and International Relations.

The role will:

Support the Major Events team by providing project management of supporting programmes and specialist technical support as required. Programmes include: Knowledge Transfer; Branding; Equipment; Event Standards Measures and Impact Reporting; Feasibility Planning; Promotional Support; Research & Event impacts
Support the International Relations team by providing project management across the department’s programmes and specialist technical support as required. Programmes and functions include International Relations Strategies and associated development projects, NGB Partnerships, Campaigns, International Legacy, International Leadership Development, and International Relations Networks.
Lead on the logistical delivery of all major seminars, workshops and conferences organised by the MEIR, including the International Leadership and Development Programmes, NGB Knowledge Transfer Events and the Major Event Partners Day.
Responsible for the administration and drafting of grant awards and contracts, ensuring that grant recipients are compliant with the terms and conditions of their financial awards, and tracking, administering and reporting on the financial status of these awards across Exchequer and Lottery budgets.
Lead on the review processes for the NGB Major Events and International Relations Strategies.
Provide innovative solutions that both enhance team efficiency across its operations, and monitor progress against team milestones and targets.

We are looking for someone who has the following skills/experience:

Project management experience
Financial literacy and budget management
Excellent written, oral and presentation communications, including the ability to originate high quality copy for UK Sport
The ability to build strong working relationships with senior colleagues and partner organisations
An eye for detail and ability to ensure consistency of approach across various communications
Creativity and imagination – the ability to translate an idea into a reality
Educated to degree level in sport or business discipline, or equivalent work experience
Passion for sport and the Olympic and Paralympic values
Cultural sensitivity
Computer literate, competent with MS Office packages
