The North Yorkshire Moors Railway is a major heritage charity and accredited museum, as well as one of the major tourist attractions in Yorkshire. We also claim it is the busiest steam heritage railway in the world, carrying around 350,000 passengers each year between the market town of Pickering and historical coastal port of Whitby through the scenic North York Moors National Park.
Due to retirement, we are looking for a new Managing Director. This post will lead the executive management team, supported by 100 employed staff and approximately 500 volunteers, to ensure that the business is continued to be developed and sustained as a major national heritage and tourist attraction.
This is a unique opportunity for someone who is likely to have managerial experience in a related environment of heritage, charitable, volunteer-focused and commercial public-facing organisations. Specific experience in the railway industry is not essential, but what is important is that the person appointed will have business and financial skills, as well as a clear track record of leadership, customer focus and successful change management experience.
