The Role
VICE.com is looking for a full-time managing editor to work out of the London office as it continues to increase its growth and cultural impact in the UK. This is a senior role in a youthful team and the ideal candidate should have at least three years’ editorial experience at a national media company while lacking nothing in ambition. This is an exceptional opportunity to implement a strategy that will help steer a young and vibrant editorial team to a position of landmark cultural authority in the UK.
The candidate will be responsible for helping the team to meet its day-to-day goals and ultimately scheduling VICE.com content a week in advance. They will also be responsible for commissioning, editing and posting original content and signing-off content produced by our UK editors and freelancers. The candidate will also be expected to take responsibility for key editorial decisions and look at analytics to lead strategic planning of social media roll-out schedules.
You
You will be an imaginative, rigorous and disciplined journalist with a proven track-record for writing and editing for leading international publishers, plus you are an expert in all forms of social media and analytics. You will be able to demonstrate a cool head and clear judgement under pressure. You will also have a track record of managing editorial teams, proven success with the content you have helped to produce and publish and will be able to call on a range of experienced and talented contacts.
Roles and Responsibilities
Working with the editorial team to organise daily and weekly content schedules
Helping the editorial team to meet its targets in that respect
Using analytics and data to optimise the social media posting schedule
Provide additional leadership and guidance to a young editorial team
Commissioning, producing and writing daily original content for VICE.com
Proofreading and copy-editing daily website content
Managing invoices from personal freelancer pool
Working with a positive attitude in a team setting
Undertaking other tasks including general administrative duties as may be required from time to time
Experience / Education
Degree qualification preferable but not essential
3+ years’ experience in related field
Skilled in Photoshop, CMS maintenance
Experience working for a newspaper/magazine brand and associated deliverable
Other
Come armed with a large, dependable network of freelancers
Demonstrate passion for and have extensive knowledge across news/current affairs, culture/pop culture, identity politics and mental health issues
Must be composed and professional in all editorial decisions and on social media
To be an ambassador for the business at all times
