Job Description
The school has an outstanding tradition of sporting success in a large variety of sports. There is an established and thriving Modern Pentathlon and Biathlon programme, recently recognised by Pentathlon GB as the Whitgift School Modern Pentathlon Academy. Some 40 boys are currently actively involved in the multi-sport with an impressive number of pupils progressing to represent at national level.
Whitgift PE department is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced coach to join the department. The successful candidate must have a sporting background and experience in coaching and working with children. The position is available from November 2019.

OUTLINE OF POST:
The Modern Pentathlon/Biathlon/Triathlon Coach will further enhance the Modern Pentathlon programme at the School, strengthening existing links within the community and promoting the programme by planning and delivering coaching sessions to students aged 10-18 years of age. The position reports to the Head of Modern Pentathlon.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Responsible for designing and delivering training sessions in school and for the modern pentathlon academy
• Supporting the Head of Modern Pentathlon with various administration tasks
• Active involvement in talent identification and recruitment of athletes
• Coaching and supporting pupils at all competitions
• Commitment to the significant co-curricular programme that operates at the school, as well as a significant number of weekends

PERSON SPECIFICATION:
Essential
• Knowledge and understanding of Modern Pentathlon – minimum requirement for coaching base in two of the five disciplines (fencing, swimming, riding, shooting and running), particularly in swimming and running.
• Undergraduate degree/coaching certificates
• Proven coaching experience with children is essential
• Ability to motivate and inspire students to reach their potential within the sport
• Excellent verbal and written communication stills
• Good administrative and organisational skills
• Ability to work as part of a large team effectively
• Highly motivated and enthusiastic
• Drive and energy to promote and enhance the existing modern pentathlon programme
• Commitment is required to the significant co-curricular programme that operates at the School during the week and over a number of weekends.

Desirable
• Ideally some previous experience working with children aged 10-18 years
• Clean Driving License
• Experience of Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Word and Excel)
• First aid qualification (desired but not necessary)
• Lifeguarding qualification (desired but not necessary)
