Job Description
PGIR are offering 4 season-long work placements in partnership with the University of Chichester for the 2016/17 season rugby. PGIR Ltd is a performance and analysis company providing professional sports organisations with consultancy and software services designed to improve efficiencies and provide insight into individual and team performance (http://www.pgir.co.uk). The work placement runs alongside the MSc Sports Performance Analysis at the University of Chichester, and is under the guidance of PGIR. The position is a part time commitment, filming and analysing Championship rugby matches. Each successful candidate will be assigned a team to code and analyse for the whole of the season. There will be feedback points during the year when successful candidates will be asked to present to all PGIR/RFU analysts and University of Chichester Staff regarding their team and what insights they have derived from the data. Coding templates and processes will be provided by PGIR and training days will be arranged in advance of the start of the season.
Duties:
• Film Championship matches when required using pre-determined codecs and capture rates
• Make sure both teams have a copy of all angles filmed
• Upload the footage to a data repository
• Perform a team and individual code on a Championship team each weekend using Sportscode
• Export the coded timeline as an xml file and upload to data repository
• Perform reliability checks and ensure that the data populating the website is accurate and matches what was collected
• All footage and coding must be turned around in 36 hours
• Feedback and present data to PGIR/RFU Analysts and University Staff at agreed feedback points during the season.
Essential Requirements:
• An undergraduate degree in a Sports-related course
• Knowledge of Rugby Union, it’s rules and current players
• IT Literate – very good IT skills/ video-editing skills
• Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills and experience
• Reliable and enthusiastic with the ability to work well under pressure
• Outstanding work ethic and ability to work and communicate as part of a team.
• Good attention to detail
• Available to work unsociable hours including weekends and Bank Holidays.
Desirable Skills:
• Good understanding of SportsCode software and Apple based products.
• Experience of coaching or playing Rugby
