Job Overview
Delivering a broad scope of performance analysis services to the Men’s England Sevens Team the post holder will work closely with the England Sevens Coaching and Management team to provide a world leading service to the RFU.
Responsible for the analysis strategy and delivery, the post holder will utilise a variety of hardware and software tools to provide pertinent information to help enhance the coaching process. He / She will work closely with both the coaching and performance teams to help improve performance through the use of objective data and feedback.
The post-holder must have a track record of working successfully as part of a wider support team, and have the ability and aptitude to work autonomously when required. He / She will have experience of working with professional coaches and sports science support staff and be confident working across a range of areas such as (but not limited to):
• Data and Video capture
• Coding and Feedback
• Manipulation of large data sets
• Report design and dissemination methods
• Collection, Integration and Manipulation of large data sets
• Presentation tools to enhance feedback and learning
• Online database platforms and dissemination tools
In addition to this the post holder will have experience (2 years minimum) in a professional / elite rugby environment and have a sound understanding of the game.
This role is fully embedded with the England Sevens team and as such requires a commitment to travel to all training camps and international competitions.
The post-holder will operate under a matrix management system reporting to the England Sevens Head Coach as an operational head and a Senior Analyst at PGIR as functional head.
Details of Duties:
• Assist in the capture, analysis and feedback of all training sessions and matches as required
• Design and evolve data collection methods to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness with which KPI’s can be monitored and referenced
• Design, organize and maintain a variety of local (an if required) online databases.
• Provide systematic and ad-hoc performance reports for wider coaching and performance teams, to enhance player development and game understanding
• Regularly compile and present pertinent analysis on opposition teams, to gain a competitive advantage
• Support the delivery of analysis sessions to both players and coaches
• Work with other sports science disciplines as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Work with other key stakeholders on the circuit as part of the 7s Analysis Working Group to ensure the continual development of analysis provision on the world series
• Work in collaboration with other national academy analysts to ensure the 7s program is embedded as part of the national academy
• Compile and present large data sets of information as part of the future recruitment process
• Work on bespoke projects (time permitting) as directed/agreed with the Head Coach
• Undertake (in consultation with all relevant line managers) any other relevant / reasonable duties across the organization as appropriate
Person Specification:
Education, Training and Experience:
• A sound academic record, including a degree in Performance Analysis or related subject is required.
• At least 2 years practical and relevant experience with performance analysis and a strong understanding of workings of Professional / Elite Sports
• Excellent understanding of the game of rugby with at least 2 years experience of working or playing in the game
• Highly numerate with strong technical and computer skills.
• Experience in the use of Performance analysis software(s) and related video production and analysis tools
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel is absolutely essential.
• Demonstrable database and statistical analysis skills.
• Ability to vary feedback methodologies to maximize understanding of target audience.
• Experience of report writing and design – translating analysis into literate, concise documentation.
• Excellent written and spoken English is essential.

Contractual Details:
Start date: ASAP
Location: Lensbury Training Centre (Teddington) will be the post-holder’s normal place of work.
Remuneration: Dependent on skills.
Holiday: Up to 25 days per year excluding bank holidays.
Hours: 08.30 to 17.45
Contract: TBA
Probation: 3 months
