Performance Director – BBSA

Job Description
The British Bobsleigh & Skeleton Association (BBSA) is the national governing body for the sports of Bobsleigh and Skeleton in the UK. It is the body recognised by the International Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation (IBSF), who govern the international competitions for the sports, and by UK Sport, who provide the funding for the GB performance programmes.
The remit of the BBSA is to oversee the use of UK Sport and commercial funding to run the performance teams, which result in athletes representing Great Britain in international competitions, World Championships and Winter Olympic Games, and to run the membership of both sports for people who want to take part at an amateur level and those who want to simply follow the sports.
British skeleton athletes have won medals at the last five winter Olympic Games, culminating in an unprecedented 3 medals (gold and two bronze) in PyeongChang 2018. UK Sport has committed £6m of funding to support the Skeleton World Class Programme in its preparations for Beijing 2022, subject to the fulfilment of a number of governance reforms within the BBSA, one of which is the establishment of the Skeleton Performance Management Group (PMG) as a Board sub-committee.
The BBSA are now looking to recruit a Performance Director.
The British Skeleton Performance Director is responsible for the continued success of the WCP. He/she will be responsible for providing inspirational leadership in guiding highly talented athletes, staff, stakeholders and partners to work together, to achieve continued world class success.
The Performance Director will drive a World Class environment and medal winning culture across the whole programme through the building of strong relationships with athletes, coaches, technical support, management and administrative staff, key partners and stakeholders.
The role is to lead and direct the Men’s and Women’s WCP programmes, to achieve medal-winning success at international competitions including Continental, Intercontinental, World Championships and Olympic Games, in line with the targets agreed with UK Sport. She/he will work closely with the Skeleton PMG and senior staff to implement a multi-dimensional support programme, incorporating experts in the delivery of coaching, technical support services such as research and innovation, sport science and medical support, athlete welfare and wellbeing, amongst others to ensure the optimum needs of the athletes are met.
