Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in B-cell Malignancies – University of Southampton

are invited for a CRUK Research Fellow position to join the CRUK accelerator programme ‘Early Cancer Research Initiative Network on Monoclonal B-cell Lymphocytosis’ (ECRIN-M3) awarded to Dr Francesco Forconi.
The successful candidate will have a PhD* degree or equivalent EU qualification and experience. Applications from EU and international candidates are welcome. Knowledge and laboratory experience of tumour and/or normal B cell biology is essential. Knowledge on mature B-cell malignancies, including chronic lymphocytic leukaemia and indolent B-cell lymphomas, are desirable.

You will
be an enthusiastic and well-motivated scientist, capable of developing your research project as well as a good team-player with excellent communication skills. You will investigate the mechanisms of disease progression mediated by the B-cell receptor from the very early stages, in B-cell leukaemias and lymphomas. You will join an expanding team of clinicians and scientists with a strong grounding in cancer B-cell immunology, genomics, molecular/cellular biology and bioinformatics. You will also interact with international collaborators, including those from Spain and Italy involved in the ECRIN-M3 programme. You will supervise junior staff and students and will be expected to contribute to the academic development and enhancement of the quality of research and enterprise of the B-cell group within the School of Cancer Sciences, nationally and internationally.
This post will be based within the Cancer Research UK Centre and Centre for Cancer Immunology at the Southampton General Hospital campus, occupying modern, well-equipped, purpose-built laboratories, with support from clinical and laboratory-based colleagues.

The position
is funded by Cancer Research UK and is full time, fixed-term to June 2025 in the first instance with full duration expected to be 60 months, subject to continued funding.

*Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
