PR Executive – West Ham United

Job summary
Reporting to the PR and Corporate Communications Manager, the PR Executive will make up an intrinsic part of West Ham United’s communications team.

The role will help promote West Ham’s corporate objectives, PR activities, brand promotion, and community work, especially in relation to the Club’s move to the London Stadium.

The post-holder will be responsible for assisting with a wide range of communications outputs and activity across West Ham United channels and pro-actively across national media.

Key Responsibilities:
• Working as directed by the PR and Corporate Communications Manager to build recognition of the benefits of West Ham’s move to the London Stadium, and the Club’s vital contribution to securing the Stadium’s long-term Olympic legacy, including the benefits for the local community.
• Producing regular communications to supporters through the Club’s digital channels about London Stadium and fan initiatives.
• Pro-actively explore opportunities for high-profile media coverage in support of the Club’s key corporate objectives
• Helping to maintain internal messaging and Q&A documents so that other Club spokespeople are able to answer corporate questions.
• Maintaining relationships with a range of external stakeholders with regard to the Stadium, including corporate partners and government bodies.
• Providing PR and communications support to promote the Club’s other central corporate objectives and promote its key corporate messages, including:
o supporting marketing colleagues in their sales objectives by assisting with accompanying PR and media strategies, preparing marketing collateral, and helping to arrange promotional events, launches, photo-shoots etc.;
o supporting commercial colleagues by providing the PR and messaging support to help promote the corporate partnerships and sponsorship deals that they secure, including liaising with counterparts within those partner or sponsor bodies;
o overseeing the promotion of the West Ham United Foundation, and the Club’s other charitable and community activities, including our support for the Moore Foundation, the DT38 Foundation, Pride of Irons, etc.
• Assist effective relationship-building and risk-management with key supporter groups aligned with corporate objectives.
• Assist with monitoring of relevant media, including fan sites and social media, flagging any relevant stories to the rest of team as appropriate
• Build and maintain relationships with key media across sport, lifestyle, regional and consumer press, and seek to help increase West Ham’s profile in these media channels.

Person Specification
The ideal candidate will have skills and experience in the following areas: –

Education/Qualifications/Training:
• Excellent writing and copywriting skills
• Good media contacts
• Track record of securing media coverage
• Aware of trends in Social Media
• Competent in relevant IT systems including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and Photoshop.

Specific Experience
• At least three years’ experience in an in-house or PR agency role is desirable
• Experience of working in a complex stakeholder environment
