Introduction & Purpose of the Job Role
ukactive is a not-for-profit health body comprised of members and partners from across the UK physical activity sector. Our focus is a long-standing and uncompromising vision to get more people, more active, more often.
The Public Affairs & Policy Manager will support the Public Affairs team to promote physical inactivity as a top-tier public health issue within Westminster, devolved, and local government. You will lead on policy initiatives, contribute to ukactive’s parliamentary strategy, and meet with key stakeholders and Parliamentarians. You will also support the organisations growing consultancy services, and offer account management and support to a number of ukactive’s key strategic partners.
General/ Main Duties
• Developing stakeholder engagement strategies to support ukactive’s relationships with its members, partners, and relevant government departments.
• Developing a range of policy areas across ukactive’s remit, including those which seek to improve the health of children and young people, transform working life and reimagine ageing.
• Overseeing ukactive’s policy and parliamentary monitoring strategy.
• Leading the development of range of written reports, including ukactive’s flagship policy reports, white papers, consultation responses, and policy briefings
• Supporting ukactive’s stakeholder facing events, primarily through narrative and agenda development.
• Managing relationships with a number of ukactive’s Strategic Partners and providing bespoke consultancy for them.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Essential
• Must be politically aware and have a good knowledge of the Parliamentary process
• Must be confident, and able to engage and build relationships with stakeholders and clients
• Must be commercially aware
• Strong communication skills
• Excellent organisation skills
• Proficient with Microsoft applications, especially Outlook, Word and PowerPoint
• Clear, concise and grammatically correct writing style with an attention to detail
• Ability to prioritise and balance demands from multiple sources
• Self-motivated, and calm under pressure
• Ability to work as part of a team
Desired Skills
• Knowledge of the fitness/ leisure industry
• Knowledge of the UK health landscape
• Passion for physical activity and/or sport
Experience
Essential
• Experience working in Public Affairs or within Parliament
Desirable
• Consultancy experience
• Experience in fitness/ leisure/sport industry
• Knowledge of UK health policy
