Job Description
The Royal Yachting Association (RYA), based in Hamble, near Southampton, is the national governing body for all forms of recreational, competitive and professional boating. It represents dinghy and yacht racing, motor and sail cruising, RIBs and sportsboats, windsurfing, inland cruising and personal watercraft.
We are seeking to appoint a Safeguarding and Equality Manager to support the RYA, its affiliated organisations and Recognised Training Centres in the safeguarding of children, young people and adults at risk, who are taking part in their activities – as well as support the RYA’s strategic aim of making boating more accessible and attractive to all.
As Safeguarding and Equality Manager your key accountabilities will include (but are not limited to):
• Maintaining, developing, implementing and communicating the RYA’s Safeguarding Implementation Plan;
• Leading on the development and management of an effective & robust case management system for all concerns or allegations relating to safeguarding;
• Supporting, developing and delivering a programme of education and training on both safeguarding and equality;
• Ensuring the RYA provides an efficient and cost-effective Registered Body service to apply for criminal record Disclosures;
• Working to maintain the RYA’s ‘Advanced’ level of the Equality Standard in Sport; and
• Overall responsibility for compliance and awareness of all safeguarding and equality matters.
As Safeguarding and Equality Manager you will be required to report to the RYA Board and funding bodies on performance against internal KPIs and external standards/requirements, and represent the RYA at meetings and conferences on child protection and equality in sport.
We are seeking a candidate who has:
• Knowledge and experience of safeguarding, diversity and equality legislation, practices and policies;
• The ability to remain impartial, non-judgemental, fair and discreet;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate well through a variety of mediums;
• Creativity in developing resources and communications for different user groups; and
• Experience of delivering training or presentations.
Occasional attendance at events, meetings and training sessions outside normal office hours may be required, for which time off in lieu will be granted.
