Safeguarding Monitor – Premier League

Job Description
Location: Home based self-employed consultant (50 to 60 days per year) commencing in
July 2016. This role involves a significant amount of travel including overnight stays and weekends.

Role Purpose: Support the Head of Safeguarding in developing and monitoring safeguarding children and adults at risk (vulnerable groups) practice by carrying out visits to audit, review and evaluate compliance with football authority safeguarding requirements and relevant legislation as well as support clubs with the delivery of their safeguarding strategies, vision, values, priorities, policies and aims to promote and protect the welfare of vulnerable groups.
Owing to the nature of this post, a DBS disclosure will be undertaken before a final offer can be made. References will be sought prior to interview for all shortlisted candidates and one to three interviews may take place in London at the applicant’s expense.

Main duties include but are not limited to:
• Review and record robust and evaluative evidence.
• Produce comprehensive written reports containing audit findings.
• Act as a source of safeguarding support, advice and expertise.
• Promote and raise safeguarding vulnerable groups awareness.
• Act as a Safeguarding Officer at events in which vulnerable groups participate.
• Attend regular staff meetings and opportunities for continuous professional development.

Person specification (experience, qualifications, skills, aptitudes and personal qualities)
Essential:
• Degree level qualification or extensive relevant safeguarding vulnerable groups experience.
• Experience in working directly with vulnerable groups.
• Holds and maintains an expert level of knowledge and understanding of government strategy, legislation, guidance and plans for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable groups.
• Experience in safeguarding case management and reviews.
• Holds and maintains an expert level of knowledge and understanding of safer recruitment practice.
• Knowledge and experience of identifying and managing risk in relation to safeguarding vulnerable groups.
• Demonstrates a commitment to safeguarding with a child and adult at risk focussed approach.
• Extensive experience in supporting and advising on the safeguarding of vulnerable groups, preferably in the elite sport sector.
• Experience of policy development and successful implementation.
• Ability to effectively monitor and evaluate organisational performance against implementation plans.
• Ability to review and record evaluative evidence.
• A successful track record of supporting and driving organisational change.
• Experience of safeguarding training/education development, delivery and evaluation specific to individual roles and responsibilities within a comparable organisation.
• Excellent communication (including written, oral and presentation) and report writing skills.
• Demonstrates a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable groups.
• Ability to work as part of a small team, follow instructions and also be able to work independently prioritizing work to meet deadlines.
• Well organised, able to prioritise workload whilst being flexible and able to cope with the unexpected or unplanned.
• Must be personable, approachable and have excellent interpersonal skills.
• Discretion and an ability to keep sensitive information confidential.
