This is an exciting opportunity for a senior researcher with a background in ethics, philosophy, or social science, to work on a national project researching the ethical issues facing cohort and biobank studies. The post will underpin the new ethics committee for UK Biobank, a large open access health resource involving half a million participants.
The post is based in Clinical ethics and law (CELS);a centre of excellence within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Southampton(www.southampton.ac.uk/cels/). We are an interdisciplinary research group exploring the ethical, legal and social issues arising from the introduction of novel technologies into clinical practice and their impact on wider society. The University of Southampton is in the top 1% of world universities.
Your key responsibilities
will be to develop and manage a portfolio of conceptual, empirical and public engagement research activities around the key ethical issues that are relevant to cohort and biobank studies involving genomic data linked to clinical information.
Applicants will need to be educated to PhD level; have experience in ethics, philosophy or social science; have an ability to organise high quality research and engage in conceptual thinking; have a strong publication record; have experience of working with stakeholders; meeting deadlines; and working with a team of researchers.
Full Time- Fixed-term for 3 years with a possibility of extension for a further year.
