Job Description
Senior Technical Coach (Canoe Sprint)
Location: National Watersports Centre, Nottingham
Hours: Full time, 37 hours per week
Competitive Salary depending on experience
British Canoeing is the United Kingdom’s Governing Body for the sport and recreation of canoeing and kayaking. This is an exciting time to join British Canoeing, as we develop an exciting and ambitious new strategy for paddlesport in the UK (2017-2021). In the last four years, British athletes have won multiple World Cup, European Championship, World Championship and Olympic medals in Canoe Sprint. British Canoeing has an aspiration to deliver even more medals at more championship events and to inspire the next generation through exceptional performances.
We are looking to strengthen our coaching support for our Olympic Podium Programme athletes based at our High Performance Centre in Nottingham, by appointing a full time senior technical coach with previous Olympic experience, a world-class level of technical knowledge of kayak and/or canoe classes and a clear technical coaching model.
The successful candidate will have a growth mind-set, be committed to developing themselves and their coaching practise, and have a desire to work as part of a collaborative and integrated coaching and support team. While individual ideas and creativity will be embraced and encouraged, they will need to demonstrate that their coaching philosophy and approach to developing athletes aligns with British Canoeing’s coaching and training philosophy, and our “what it takes to win model”.
Reporting to the Performance Manager, the post holder will be a key member of the Canoe Sprint Olympic Podium Programme coaching team supporting the day to day development and technical coaching of an identified group of kayak and/or canoe athletes based at the Centre.
Applicants for this post will require strong leadership and communication skills and proven experience of delivering in the Olympic environment. Candidates will need to have a minimum of six years experience as a national or international coach and should hold coaching qualifications commensurate with this experience.
It is essential that candidates have direct experience and a track record of success in leading and managing a high performance team of athletes and coaches in the Olympic environment.
We are looking for a coach with a “can do” approach, and one who is willing to take on additional responsibilities beyond direct coaching, and contribute to the effective operation of the High Performance Centre and the development of a world leading Canoe Sprint Performance support team.
This role is funded by the UK Sport World Class Programme funding stream.
