Sport Engagement Manager – British Olympic Association

Job Description
Scope:
The Sport Engagement Manager (SEM)’s will be the key point of contact between the sport and the BOA, allowing for a dedicated flow of information in both directions to inform Games time planning and delivery.

The SEM will be responsible for a range of National Governing Bodies and will also be responsible for key projects and roles, both in the run up to, and during Games-time. Along with NGBs, the SEM will also assume key relationships with other UK sporting stakeholders including UK Sport and Home Country Sport Institutes.

Key Responsibilities:
• The Sport Engagement Team’s priority is to forge and maintain strong relationships with sport and be the key point of information flow between the BOA and sport. This will predominantly be through the Performance Director and/or Olympic Team Leader.

• The SEM will be the liaison between the sport and the delivery teams across the BOA, and will be responsible for providing sport-specific intelligence, technical knowledge and advice to internal BOA departments.

• The SEM will be responsible for ensuring requirements for sports across all IOC sanctioned events are identified, with focus on the following key Games-time areas:

o Qualification (OQS and Accreditation and Selection)
o Pre-Games Training, Preparation Camp requirements, Games time Performance Centre
o Competition wear
o Performance support (including medical, physiotherapy, analysis and recovery)
o Logistics and administration (including accommodation, transport, freight)

• SEMs will engage with Sport through meetings in the UK, and attendance where appropriate at key training, test events, recces and competitions. SEMs, where appropriate, may also form part of specific sport groups/panels (including Performance Management Groups, Selection Panels and Boards)

• The SEM will be one of the Team Leaders’ dedicated BOA points of contact during an Olympic or Olympic Winter Games.

• SEMs may form part of a Team GB Headquarters team in a leadership/support role (including pre-Games training camps) across Olympic Games, Youth Olympics, Youth Festivals, European Games and as such, may be required to be available for extensive overseas travel and be away from home for extended periods of time.

• The SEM may be called upon to support the Head of Sports Engagement in undertaking key projects (e.g. Team Leader Journey, Games Programme Management, Quiet Training etc.)

• Understanding key aspects of Olympic sport
• Managing the core aspects of the SEM role alongside specific games-time roles and responsibilities

Person Specification:
Essential Skills and Experience –
• A passion for, and understanding of, high performance sport within the Olympic environment
• Experienced and confident at Project Management
• Strong communication and presentation skills
• Robust negotiation skills
• Excellent organisation and analysis skills
• An open team player
• Proactive, innovative and a problem solver
• An eye for detail and an understanding of sports requirements
• Able to adapt quickly to foreign environments
• Confident operating remotely and under own initiative
• Enjoys travel
• Comfortable being away from home for extended periods of time
• Driving License

Desirable Skills and Experience –
• Current relationships within specific sports is preferable but not essential
• Experience of operating within an Olympic environment
