Main Purpose of Post
The post holder will lead the sports delivery team and develop, implement and performance manage the Trust’s programme of delivery in its key sports.
The post holder will support with the implementation of major sports events legacy programmes that reach out to Manchester’s communities and feed into the Trust’s programme pathways.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Ensure that the Trust’s sports programmes are fit for purpose by understanding local, citywide and NGB priorities.
2. Deliver and support a comprehensive sports development plan for the Trust.
3. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the delivered programmes including analysis of income and expenditure and implementing changes where required to improve quality and effectiveness whilst maximising income generation; ensuring delivery against KPIs and financial targets.
4. Lead on drawing in external funding for the Trust’s sports programmes, including the sourcing of potential funders, liaison with external funding bodies, preparation and submission of bids, ensuring outcomes are achieved, budgets are met and results are reported to relevant parties.
5. Provide the Head of Sport & Community Activity with detailed periodical reports including qualitative and quantitative analysis, financial analysis (budget profiles, YTD, income/expenditure), key issues, and recommendations on present and future developments.
6. Establish and maintain excellent relationships with partner organisations to ensure effective delivery of the Trust’s sports programmes.
7. Support the Head of Sport & Community Activity and deputise at relevant meetings with elected members, internal and external partners and other key stakeholders with regard to developing and improving service delivery in the Trust’s sports programmes.
8. To carry out any other duties, commensurate with grade, that may be reasonably requested by the Head of Sport & Community Activity.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential:
1. A degree in a sport/leisure related subject (or equivalent experience).
2. Good understanding of the sporting landscape and the structure and relationship of the organisations that operate within it.
3. Experience of sports development.
4. Previous supervisory and managerial experience, including how to set and administer work plans, conduct appraisals, lead and motivate a team, set targets and, with support, implement HR protocols.
5. Ability to research, identify and pursue funding grants.
6. Experience of delivering services against defined plans and targets incorporating budget forecasting and budget maintenance.
7. Able to give effective presentations to both interest and influence in order to gain commitment from partners.
8. An understanding of the barriers that may prevent people participating in and staying in sport and how to overcome them.
9. Excellent interpersonal skills demonstrating an ability to communicate with and relate to a wide range of people and organisations.
10. Experience of working in partnership with a range of public, private and third sector organisations to deliver effective results.
11. Be willing to work evenings and weekends as the job requires.
12. Willingness to consent to and apply for an enhanced disclosure check.
Desirable:
1. Working knowledge and understanding of Sport England, CSP and NGB products and programmes.
2. Driving licence and access to own car.
