Strength & Conditioning Coach – Denstone College

Job Description
Purpose: Working with all members of the Sports Department, to further the total athletic development and sporting experience and achievements of pupils at the College. In addition, to contribute to the pioneering of the programme vision to lead the way in paediatric athletic development.

Responsible to: Head of Athletic Development

Standing: 1 year full time contract (with the option to extend)

General Responsibilities:
• Assist in the delivery and review of the athletic development programme in which pupils follow a structured system of physical progression, appropriate to the needs of their sport and the individual, whilst considering maturation and training age
• Lead the rehabilitation programme for all pupils including liaison with relevant medical personnel to provide pupils with an evidence-based injury rehabilitation and return to play protocol
• Lead athletic development programmes across all age groups and levels in specific allocated sports, as well as collaborate with other Leads to optimise the athletic development programme delivery in other sports
• Lead strength and conditioning services for Leicester Tigers Player Development Group (U16) at Denstone College and the Keele University PDG centre
• Deliver movement literacy schemes within PE and Games aiming to educate, challenge and develop a rounded movement skillset and sport-specific physical qualities in young pupils, within an enjoyable environment
• Liaise with relevant professional academies within your allocated sport to deliver extensive support and individualised programming to our high performance athletes
• Optimise the physical and psychological well being of pupils through the monitoring of volume, wellness, and external stressors
• Assist in enhancing coach/teacher knowledge of athletic development
• Assist in the Dedicated Athlete Scheme, which provides multidisciplinary support to those who demonstrate commitment to their athletic development

Additional Responsibilities:
• Contribute ideas and innovations and commit to their implementation to further develop the athletic development programme
• Develop and maintain a good working relationship with the staff, pupils, residents, contractors and other guests
• Work with other sports staff to foster a strong culture of athletic development
• Carry out any duties which may reasonably be requested by the Head of Athletic Development or Director of Sport
• Maintain regular consistent and professional attendance, punctuality, personal appearance, and adherence to relevant Health & Safety procedures
• Pursue personal development of skills and knowledge necessary for the effective performance of the role
• Promote the safeguarding and welfare of children with whom you come into contact
• Comfortable working the unsociable hours associated with a boarding school

The ideal candidate will possess:
• Excellent interpersonal skills and a strong desire and ability to communicate appropriately, develop and motivate young athletes
• BSc in Sport Science/Strength and Conditioning/Sports Rehabilitation related degree
• UKSCA Accreditation (or the ability to obtain it within 6 months)
• Thorough understanding of youth development principles and their application
• Experience in long term strength and conditioning support to youth athletes of both male and female genders (field- and gym-based)
• Experience working with groups and a range of age grade athletes
• Understanding of common injury prevention and rehabilitation strategies
• Strong work ethic; punctual, reliable and professional
• Willingness to constantly learn and develop as a coach
• Proactive and innovative attitude
• Computer literacy, including MS office, especially Excel
