Job Description
Background:
The European Youth Olympic Festival will be held in Gyor Hungary from 22nd to 30th July 2017.
Team GB is putting together a team of Performance Support staff to accompany the athletes to the Festival and are seeking applications for the role of Chief Medical Officer.
Please note that this is a voluntary position.
Reporting to the Chef De Mission (or Deputy if appropriate), the accredited role of Chief Medical Officer will be based at the Gyor Youth Olympic Festival Village working across the sport training and competition venues.
The role will work closely with the HQ team and representatives of the National Governing Bodies, including all support staff and Team Leaders. The CMO will also communicate at a local level as required with Gyor 2017 Organising Committee medical representatives.
The postholder will need to commit to the duration of the Games Time period (22nd July to 31st July) with additional dates of 19th and 31st July subject to requirements.
Key responsibilities of the post include:
• To provide the highest quality of medical care to all athletes during their preparation & competition phase and for the duration of the Festival.
• To provide a responsive, accessible medical support service to all Team GB members, both in the Village and at training & competition venues.
• To support and be actively involved in the preparation process of the performance team and services in the lead up to Gyor 2017
• To ensure a high standard of health promotion & preventative care in liaison with the athletes’ support staff (team doctor, physiotherapist, coach and others), including advice on the prevention of injury or illness, hygiene, vaccinations and environmental conditions.
• To liaise with other medical personnel, sports science staff and other support staff as required in order to ensure the highest standard of care of an athlete’s injury or illness and optimum rehabilitation and management, whilst at all times working within the General Medical Council (GMC) guidelines on patient confidentiality.
• To promote drug-free sport through education of athletes & support staff and by using medication & supplement checks prior to competition.
• To refer to appropriate specialists and other members of the medical support team as appropriate.
• To keep medical records of all consultations and to keep these records confidential and secure.
• To provide reports on medical activity within the Village or in the lead up to the Festival, as required.
• To be the BOA’s point of contact for all Medical related communication in the lead-up to EYOF 2017
• To act as an independent arbitrator in disputes over selection with regard to fitness /injury
• Lead the Medical team in Gyor and liaising closely with the Lead Physiotherapist to ensure consistent coverage of HQ Medical and Physiotherapy services across a number of different venues.
• To act as BOA welfare officer during the period of the Games in accordance with the BOA Welfare Plan
Person Specification –
Qualifications:
• Current GMC registration
• Post-Graduate qualification (preferably MSc) in Sport and Exercise Medicine (SEM) recognised by FSEM (UK)
• Current Advanced Trauma Care Certificate (e.g. ICIS)
• Suitable professional indemnity cover with MPS/MDU/MPSS
Essential clinical experience:
• Current GB Medical Officer to a Winter sport NGB
• Currently working with an elite sport – NGB / HCSI
• At least 5 years’ clinical SEM experience in elite sport
• Previous experience as an NGB Medical Officer
• Previous work with BOA in multi-sport Games environment (EYOF, YOG)
• Completed specialty training in SEM
• Previous experience in primary care aspects of SEM (preferably General Practice Vocational Training / Primary Care trained)

• Full driving license
• Up to date DBS check
• Availability for full duration

• HCSI Employees that are core funded will be “released” to undertake their duties on HCSI time – on the proviso that your HCSI duties can be covered in your absence
• For those who are not full-time employees, it is their own responsibility to not account for their non-EIS time
• For employees that are NGB funded, as opposed to core funded, approval will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
