Job Purpose:
To be responsible for delivering a high-quality evidence based medical
support service to all Professional Development Phase players but primarily to all players in the U23 playing squad.
Main Duties:
To lead the provision of physiotherapy/medical services to all players in the U23 squad, in conjunction with the Head of Academy Physiotherapy (HAP)
To have a close working relationship with the First Team medical department to ensure effective communication with the transition of players into the 1st team environment.
To liaise effectively with the academy coaching staff, on a daily basis, in order to keep them informed of player’s availability for academy matches and training.
To lead the delivery of the RFC injury risk reduction programme to the U23 squad in alignment with current evidence and departmental principles, in both group and individual settings.
To support the Academy medical team as required in attending player medical/Specialist appointments.
To provide pitch side trauma cover at U23s fixtures
To assist in coordinating pitch-side medical and trauma provisions (Doctors, Paramedics, stretcher bearer team) for U23 fixtures, in liaison with HAP.
To maintain and co-ordinate up-to-date cardiac screening for all U23 squad players in compliance with FA/EFL/PL requirements, in liaison with HAP
To lead, implement and follow clubs U23 player screening and monitoring protocols on daily, weekly and yearly basis, e.g. medical screening and squeezes
To assist with medical provisions to the U9-U18 squads and beyond as directed by HAP, when appropriate
To provide accurate assessment and diagnoses of all academy injuries.
To provide, log and develop high quality evidence-based treatment and rehabilitation of U23 and Academy players.
To provide and maintain up to date records of Screening Protocols as directed by HAP and in conjunction with EPPP requirements.
To maintain accurate records of injuries and medical interventions on the Clubs PMA system.
To maintain and deliver up to date, comprehensive and accurate age specific (throughout the academy as directed by HAP) injury audits at 6-weekly intervals.
To maintain and update qualifications and CPD by both contributing to the club’s medical department in-service program and attending external course, in liaison with the HAP
To attend department, Multidisciplinary, phase specific meetings as directed by HAP.
To perform any other duties as requested by Head Physiotherapist, Head of Academy Physiotherapy, and Academy Manager.
To respond to all enquires within Reading Football Club Charter guidelines.
To adhere to a strict code of confidentiality in respect of any information relating to Reading Football Club and its operation
To be presentable at all times when working and demonstrate that you can represent the face of the club in the manner expected
To maintain Reading Football Club’s Safeguarding (Child Protection), Health, Safety and Equal Opportunity procedures and practice
To act in a manner that supports the Club’s Vision and Values at all times
Person Specification:
Qualifications. Essential – BSc Hons Physiotherapy. HCPC Registered.
CSP Registered. Up to date ATMMiF pitch side Qualification
Desirable – MSc in Physiotherapy or related studies
Experience. Essential – 5 years’ experience of working in Elite Sport, preferably a Team sport and with a minimum of 1 year Full Time work with an U18+ age group within a football environment.
Knowledge. Essential – An understanding of the EPPP process
Skills. Essential – Computer literacy, Including MS Office and Excel. Encourage, maintain and manage elite footballers
Attitude. Essential – An understanding and commitment to equal opportunities in employment and sport. Strong commitment to developing elite athletes. Ability to work irregular and unsocial hours as required involving work outside normal office hours, at evenings, weekends and bank holidays
