Background
This September, the world’s best cyclists will travel to Yorkshire for the UCI Road World Championships, the pinnacle event in the international road cycling calendar. The Championships will include a range of men’s and women’s races across age groups from junior to elite. Starting in different towns and cities throughout Yorkshire, each race finishes in the main competition town of Harrogate.
The event presents significant size, scale and complexity and will be one of the biggest international sporting events to be hosted in the UK in the coming years. Yorkshire is aiming to deliver the most inclusive, innovative and inspiring Championships possible.
Yorkshire 2019’s volunteer programme is critical to the success of the championships with over 1,500 volunteers supporting the Championships. Supported by Yorkshire Tea, Yorkshire 2019 plan for the championship’s volunteering to be done proper.
Role Overview
Due to a change in personnel, Yorkshire 2019 Ltd are looking to recruit a Volunteer Coordinator to support the Volunteer Manager. At this stage in the championship’s planning, the volunteer programme is well progressed: all volunteer roles have been scoped, there has been a great level of applications and the main allocations have been completed. Training events are already scheduled and our clothing supplier is in place with online orders underway.
The role of the coordinator will be to help transform this pre-planning into a great championships volunteer team.
Role Profile
The Volunteer Coordinator will:
• support the Volunteer Manager in delivering the overall championships’ volunteer programme;
• take responsibility for the volunteer database and the ongoing role allocations and data updates;
• manage pre-champs communications with the volunteer team via email and social media;
• assist with volunteer training sessions;
• work with Yorkshire Tea to create a proper good volunteer experience throughout.
Experience
At this stage in the project, Yorkshire 2019 are looking for a candidate who has:
• previous experience of volunteer management at major events;
• a background of working in a client-facing environment;
• good data management skills: capability to manage database systems and large Excel sheets;
• experience of working in a fast paced, dynamic project-based environment and delivering to critical deadlines; and
• experience of the workforce database system Rosterfy would be a distinct advantage;

• A great communicator who has a skill and passion for coordinating large teams.
• A passion for great team dynamics and supporting a positive working atmosphere.
• Excellent organisational and administration skills with the ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
• A good team player; being resourceful and demonstrating initiative whilst still seeking advice or support when required.
• Willingness to assist other members of the team as required; able to interact effectively with others.
• A sharp eye for detail, professional delivery and customer service.
