Volunteer Operations Intern – The London Youth Games Foundation

Job Description
GamesForce is the London Youth Games volunteer programme which gives volunteers aged 14+ from all backgrounds an opportunity to get involved and be part of the action at the London Youth Games. The programme offers volunteers from schools, colleges, universities and communities the opportunity to volunteer to learn new skills, enhance their experience and be part of a fantastic team delivering competitive sport for young Londoners.

Volunteer Roles are broadly divided into four parts:
Sport volunteers
• Gain officiating qualifications and develop your experience
• Become part of the sports team and help deliver events
• Type of roles include: Officials (in many of the 33 sports); Assisting with the competition

Event volunteers
• Be part of the team and gain valuable experience in organizing events, seeing what goes on behind the scenes of LYG event days.
• Types of roles include: Team registration; Hospitality; Medal ceremonies; Results collection; Events and Information hub; Festival support

Media volunteers
• Raise the profile and capture the spirit of the games through media.
• Interact with Olympians and host key partners who regularly visit London Youth Games
• Type of roles include: VIP attaches; Photographers; Reporters; Press officers

Team Leaders
Team leaders are volunteers aged 18+, who through an application process apply to work directly with the LYG core team to support and manage large groups of volunteers onsite at event days in the various areas of sports, events or media.

We are looking for a candidate with the following skills and experience:

• Project management of the organisations volunteering programme, GamesForce
• Mentoring and support to GamesForce Team Leaders and Junior Team Leaders
• Managing and supporting all volunteers, both prior to event days and on event days
• Supporting the retention of volunteers by monitoring shifts completed and rewarding volunteers where required
• Coordinating and delivering a GamesForce celebration and ‘thank you’ event
• Working with the sport and event delivery team to recruit and deploy volunteers across all event days
• Promote GamesForce on all social media platforms making it the most exciting volunteering experience out there
• Monitoring and evaluation of volunteer recruitment
